Tales of Superbowl parties past
Hi! I LOVE FOOTBALL! My Man is not a big sports fan, but I am a sports fanatic. I love pretty much all sports, but football is my favorite. I live for football season. I schedule my life around what time my teams are playing. Saturday I get to watch my Sooners and Sunday (or Monday or Thursday) is all about my Cowboys. I have game day rituals. I have to wear certain things. I have to drink out of the right cup. You get the idea. My Man says there are 2 of me: football season me and normal me. Apparently even though I love multiple sports, football makes me a little crazier than normal.
I love Superbowl parties. The kids used to ask me if I wasn’t hosting a party could they still have the same food. So even if it was just us watching the big game I’d still go all out.
Before we moved back to Oklahoma, I had a party store that I’d go to for all the fun stuff. I always got beads in the colors of the 2 teams playing. I got M&Ms in the team’s colors. I’d get anything fun in the team’s colors, like hand clappers and little footballs. One year I found these cute sunglasses.
Even my dog Dale (RIP) got in on the fun.
I always had football plates, cups and napkins. I got plastic utensils in team colors. I found a tablecloth that looked like a football field. I have chip and dip bowls that look like footballs.
I would decorate the food table with the beads and whatever fun finds I had. Guests could just grab what they wanted.
Speaking of the food table…
I apologize for the not so great pictures… I wasn’t blogging back then!
I would always have a huge array of food. I’d make my famous chili and cook taco meat and keep them in slow cookers set to warm.
By the taco meat, I set up a nacho bar. This included cheese, onions, salsa, jalapeno peppers, black olives, sour cream and tortilla chips. I’d also have tortillas just in case someone wanted a taco.
Next to the nacho bar I had the chili. I set shredded cheese and hot sauce near it.
I always made sure I had plenty of chips and dip. I also had finger foods, like deviled eggs, wings and toasted ravioli with sauces for dipping.
I usually serve brats and make a ham. I would set condiments such as ketchup, mustard and mayo along with sliced cheese, bread and buns at one end of the table.
The other important component of this Superbowl party is, of course, plenty of beer. I filled containers with ice and bottles of beer and set them around the food table and in the room where we were watching the game.
That’s the basic framework of my Superbowl parties. The food is changed up year to year, but the nacho bar and wings are always there!
Have a great game day!
Thanks for stopping by!
