Instructions
Brown the meat in a large, deep skillet over medium high heat. Salt and pepper to taste. Drain off any fat.
Add the green peppers and onions to the skillet. Stir and allow to cook for a couple of minutes.
Pour in water. Add ketchup, BBQ sauce and garlic. Stir to combine.
Next, add the brown sugar, chili powder, dry mustard, red pepper flakes, a few dashes of hot sauce and a few dashes of Worcestershire sauce. Stir to combine.
Cover and simmer over medium low heat for 20 – 25 minutes.
If the sauce isn’t as thick as you’d like, add corn starch. Start by adding a teaspoon at a time until you reach the desired consistency.
Serve by spooning mixture onto buns.
Notes
If you find it too spicy, you can try adding a little bit of red wine vinegar. If you don't have BBQ sauce, you can use all ketchup. We like ours with shredded cheese on top.
