Winner Winner Chicken Dinner Dog Treats (and how I choose my ingredients)

Hello! Today I thought I’d give you a little insight as to how and why I chose the ingredients for my dog treats.

Every ingredient has benefits for dogs. Today I made chicken dinner dog treats. Here are the ingredients and their benefits:

12.5 oz can Tyson Premium Chunk White Chicken Breast

Chicken is considered a lean meat that provides many benefits to our dogs. Dogs need protein as a main energy source. Chicken provides that boost with a big calorie count. Poultry builds lean muscle mass in dogs and delivers Omega 6 fatty acids that help sustain healthy skin and shiny coats. Source: petmd.com/dog

1 1/2 cups boiled potatoes (sliced)

Potatoes should be baked or boiled with nothing added when feeding them to your dog. Potatoes are very easily tolerated and digestible for most dogs. They are a great source of Vitamin C, potassium and B Vitamins. They are also low calorie. Source: solidgoldpet.com

1 1/2 cups cooked carrots (sliced)

Carrots are an excellent source of Vitamin A, potassium and fiber. Source: akc.org/expert-advice

1 1/2 cups cooked peas

Green peas are an excellent source of vitamins, minerals and dietary fiber for our dogs. Peas are protein rich and boost energy levels in dogs. Peas are gentle on the digestive system. High fiber foods help dogs maintain a healthy weight and also help lower cholesterol. Source: petmd.com/dog

1/2 cup cheddar cheese (shredded)

Cheese contains protein, calcium, Vitamin A, essential fatty acids and B complex vitamins. Source: akc.org/expert-advice

1/4 cup chicken broth

Bone based broths, like chicken broth, are great for dogs because of the healthy acids they give your dog. Broth usually contains Glycine, which is an amino acid. Glycine helps your dog’s liver and kidneys detox. Bone broth is also good for joints because collagen is both in the broth and collagen production is boosted by it. This means that joint health can be improved with regular broth feeding. Source: herepup.com

3 cups oats

Oats are a great alternative carbohydrate for dogs who may be sensitive to wheat or other grains. Oats are full of linoleic acid, a type of Omega-6 fatty acid that helps keep skin strong and healthy. They are also a good source of soluble fiber, which can help regulate blood glucose levels. Source: petmd.com/dog

1 1/2 cups flour

Wheat is commonly used in dog treats because it is readily available and it provides a great source of energy and a good source of protein when blended with an animal protein such as chicken. Source: moderndogmagazine

1/4 cup parsley

Parsley delivers a variety of health benefits to your pet. Parsley is rich in a variety of important vitamins and minerals for your pet. Parsley is a natural source of Vitamins C, A, and K. Vitamin C helps to provide immune support. Vitamin A is important for the development of your pet’s vision and immune health. Parsley is one of the best natural sources of Vitamin K you can give to your pet. Vitamin K helps maintain a healthy blood clotting system and promotes liver health. Parsley is also rich in folic acids and antioxidants. It has anti-inflammatory properties that help promote good kidney health and antimicrobial properties that promote good urinary health. It’s also good for freshening breath! Source: redbarn.com

Ok. Let’s do this!

Preheat oven to 350°

In a food processor or blender, add chicken, potatoes, carrots, peas, cheese and chicken broth. Puree until smooth.

It doesn’t look appetizing, but your dog doesn’t care. The dogs only care that it is delicous!

In a large mixing bowl, add puree mixture, parsley and oats. Stir until well combined.

Next, add in flour. Knead until a stiff dough forms. Add extra flour by the tablespoonful if necessary to achieve desired consistency.

On a lightly floured surface, roll or press dough down to 1/4 – 1/2 inch thickness.

Cut shapes with a cookie cutter or the top of a glass.

Place treats on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

Bake for 20 minutes.

Allow treats to rest on baking sheet for 1 minute before moving to cooling rack.

Allow treats to completely cool before giving them to your dog.

These have been taste tested by the six pack and 100% approved!
