Mama’s Catalina Dressing

Hello! The other day I was minding my own business, making spice mixes and some salad dressing. All of the sudden I was flooded with memories of my mama and got upset. It was all because of the Catalina dressing I was making. Food and smell has a strong tie to our memories.

Some days it doesn’t take much to remind me of how much I miss my parents, and that day it hit hard. All because I was making her favorite dressing…

Catalina is a wonderful tomato based dressing that has a unique and wonderful flavor. You really can’t beat anything homemade in my opinion, and that’s why I make this myself. By making it yourself you get to adjust the flavors to your liking.

If you’d like to try my mama’s favorite dressing, here’s what you’ll need:

1/2 cup  red wine vinegar 

1/2 cup olive oil

1/3 cup  ketchup 

1/3 cup  honey 

1 tsp  Worcestershire sauce 

1 tsp  soy sauce 

1 tsp  smoked paprika 

1/2 tsp  onion powder

1/2 tsp  garlic powder 

Salt & pepper to taste

Ok. Let’s do this!

Add everything EXCEPT THE OLIVE OIL to a blender or food processor. Cover and puree.

While the blender or food processor is running on low speed, open the vent in the lid and slowly add the olive oil. Blend until combined.

Taste and add salt and pepper if desired.

Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
